Nothing is impossible ... until you think it is impossible

LOOKING FOR A CLUB

Over the years I have heard many reasons why people won't take up martial arts :-

" I'm not fit enough "

Before taking up any form of exercise it is a good idea to have a word with your doctor first but you do not have to be supper fit to start with, many people who come to me are unfit, but as they progress, their fitness improves.

" I'm too old "

Ok maybe you are for some forms of martial arts, but not all. A 60 year old who has never practiced martial arts before might find it hard going in Aikido or Kick boxing, but there are many martial arts that can be adapted to suit the person, yes there are some things you won't be able to do, but a good instructor can work round that, or why not try Tai Chi which is slow and gentle focusing on health as well as self-defence.

"I'm overweight "

Go and see the doctor, if he gives you the go-a-head, then try it. Martial Arts are a good way to loose weight and improve your fitness.

It is easy to find excuses not to do something

Martial Arts are a good way of getting fit, having fun and meeting a lot of new friends.

WHICH IS THE BEST MARTIAL ART?

The answer is none of them.

There are no good or bad martial arts ... Only good and bad martial artists

There is no such thing as the ultimate fighting system that is guaranteed to defeat all opponents. The question should be: -

“Which style suits me?”

When taking up any martial art it is important to look at what is involved with in that particular system. Would you height, weight and even your age be a disadvantage to you?

When we are young, the sports side of the arts (free fighting), is great, but as we get older, we get slower and tend to concentrate more on the self-defence side. This doesn’t mean that we can’t continue to spar, just remember no matter how good you are, we all slow down a little as we get older.

The best martial art is the one that you feel most comfortable and happy with.
