Success is a journy ... not a destination.

Who are we?

Warley Martial Arts Centre was a full-time club dedicated to teaching and promoting both internal and external Chinese Martial Arts, unfortunately we had to close down when the building we rented was knocked down to make way for flats. Now we are a part time club running lessons two nights per week from a church hall.

We teach two styles of Chinese martial arts, Kung Fu and San Shou (Chinese Kickboxing) with the emphasis on their effectiveness on the streets rather than as a sport. This doesn't mean that we discourage members from entering competitions, but 95% of our members train to improve their fitness, learn self-defence, but most importantly because they enjoy it.

Both of our styles have very strong traditional links, but this doesn’t mean that we are slaves to tradition; both are taught with a modern outlook and application.

Because we do not have our own premises we are only able to teach San Shou to the public, Kung Fu is only taught through private lessons.

Our History

1992

First opened on Friday 3rd January under the name of “Lau-Gar Kung Fu Club”
teaching Lau-Gar kung fu one night a week at St. Michael’s Church Hall, Oldbury, West Midlands.

By April of the same year, our membership had grown so much that we were opening two nights a week and running two classes per night.

It was at this time that the Church offered us the use the permanent use of
a room above the Church Hall, which we could turn into a martial arts gym.
Warley Martial Arts was born.

1993

Kick Boxing (San Shou) was introduced to the club.

Broke away from Lau-Gar and Sifu Hogan introduced his own style, Ho-Gar Kung Fu and Ho-Gar San Shou.

1995

           Accepted as members of NAKMAS
National Association of Karate and Martial Arts Schools

1st October we became a full time club

2003

          Accepted as members to BCCMA

British Council for Chinese Martial Arts

2006

WMAC was forced to close on 1st June as the building we rented has been pulled down to make way for flats.

Despite a desperate search for new premises nothing could be found, not even a room one night a week.

1st July WMAC Re-Opened after we managed to hire a church hall two nights per week to teach San Shou. Kung Fu now only being taught as private lessons.
